LIVE YOUR CLOTHES

Don't be afraid to live in your clothes. Of tearing a t-shirt when you fall off your skateboard. Getting paint on a sweatshirt because you've finished your last painting for an exhibition. Using a tote bag to carry bread, fruit and your dog. Live your clothes.

THE BRAND STORY

Hello everyone. We are Renata and José, the founders of Uwalo project, a blend of Portuguese and African traditions. Renata is a highly skilled Portuguese artist, capable of inspiring even the most skeptical with her works, and José is an entrepreneur with background in Management.

While fascinated by the rich and beautiful Portuguese heritage, which inspired one of the first brand collections, they were also in love with Angola's traditions, through the many stories that José's father told them about his homeland: the contagious joy of the people, the warmth, the music, the food, the scents, the nature, the vibrant sun, the traditional clothing, among many other things. Until... the idea emerged to bring creations to life in clothing pieces, so that more people could integrate these elements into their everyday lives. That’s how Uwalo was born!

WHY UWALO?

But why Uwalo? What does it mean? Well, the explanation is simple. The word Uwalo means “Clothing” in Umbundu, an Angolan dialect. This way, Renata and José also aim to honor, through the brand name, the African culture, which will be a great source of inspiration for many of the artistic creations in Uwalo’s portfolio.
